The Beach Guide

This popular family beach borders the wildlife-filled Manuel Antonio National Park, where three-toed sloths and white-faced capuchin monkeys emerge from the coastal rainforest to the delight of tiny beachgoers. It’s a 30-minute hike from the entrance to the park , but once there you’ll find soft sands, excellent swimming and honey-hued sunsets. Book a room at Arenas del Mar, spread across 11 leafy acres of a nature reserve. You’ll find no shortage of beautiful beaches in Grenada, but tranquil, sheltered Grand Anse is one of the best. Two miles of milky-white sand on the western, leeward side of the island, it’s a short water-taxi ride from the capital of St George’s, and is overlooked by some of Grenada’s finest hotels. You won’t want for anything here, whether it’s goblet-sized G&Ts, market stalls or seahorses that swoosh around snorkellers.


Sheltered by low cliffs, the sandy beach is a great sun trap, has beautifully clear waters and is dotted with excellent rock pools. The historic Coch Inn is part of a small cluster of buildings at the head of the beach and does classic pub grub. Easily one of the best-looking beaches in the UK, Holkham would be flooded with visitors if it were just that little bit closer to London. The beach – which makes you feel a million miles from civilisation – has deservedly starred in many a film and pop video, including All Saints’ big tune ‘Pure Shores’. An enormous sandy stretch is backed by a verdant nature reserve with a warren of well-signposted walking trails within it; trek through the pinewoods and saltmarshes to see orchids, sea lavender and rare birds.

Botany Bay

The area is popular with families and groups who come to enjoy the sun and sea. huts open during the summer, and public facilities consist of showers, changing rooms and toilets, while other outdoor attractions at the dunes include camel rides, paragliding and sandboarding. A 40-mile drive from Exmouth on Australia’s Western coast, it’s a beach of blindingly white sands and impeccable snorkelling – you’ll descend to see rainbow corals, peaceful turtles and more than 500 fish species. Possibly one of the most photogenic places in the world, Anse Source d’Argent on La Digue is the original Bounty advert beach, cloaked in pure white sand and strewn with hefty granite boulders. It is not, by any stretch, deserted, but visit in the early morning] and you’ll get there before the daytrippers from Mahé and Praslin.

If your chosen route is closed, please keep walking and you’ll find an alternative route. Approximately two hours from London (train from Liverpool Street to Clacton-on-Sea, then a bus). Approximately one and a half hours from London (train from Liverpool Street to Walton-on-the-Naze). Essex sports a range of brilliant, and they’re easy to reach on a train ride from London.

Air and water temperatures vary quite a bit from south to north, but swimming can be enjoyed in most places at least from mid July through August. Jodogahama BeachJodogahama Beach is one of the more famous tourist sites along the Sanriku Coast and features interesting rock formations. Popular in the summer, the beach is also ranked as one of the one hundred best beaches of Japan with its clear inlet that is sheltered from the open ocean. I like the pool its huge and i felt like its private because everyone is at beach. Saunton Sands Hotel – a brilliant white 1930s Art Deco building, which presides over the huge sandy vista.

  • World’s first lifeboat was developed and tested at Bamburgh, there’s actually no coastguard on the beach these days.
  • Used for thousands of years for fishing, farming, and collecting oysters, it became a centre for industry in the 19th century with nearby Gweek distributing tin all over the globe.
  • Holkham National Nature Reserve, one of the largest in the country, is home to many rare species of flora and fauna.
  • Marazion Beach has the most spectacular view of St Michael’s Mount and the bay beyond, Mounts Bay, was recently voted one of the most beautiful bays in the world.
  • The farm experience was a special treat and Chef Krishnapriya was a lovely and knowledgeable hostess.

This walk is suitable for any weather, but the beach looks its best when the tide is half in with the sun out – creating that ‘tropical’ look. We ask that you leave your room by this time, but please enjoy the surroundings all day. We can’t guarantee an early check-in or late check-out, but stick around and let us know your plans and we will try our best on the day. You can ​check in from 4pm at all of our properties, however, you’re more than welcome to arrive earlier to drop off your luggage and explore the gardens. We do not permit dogs inside THE PIG-on the beach, although they are welcome to join you on a stroll around the grounds. Please keep them out of the kitchen garden and away from our animals.

Megijima Island

Resort beaches are open to everyone, although some charge for beach access. While most of the beaches are for swimming and sunbathing, others offer snorkeling opportunities. Shirahama BeachShirahama Beach is a 500 meter long sand beach in Shirahama, a well developed hot spring resort in Wakayama Prefecture. This popular beach sees lots of visitors during the summer, and shops renting beach paraphernalia open during the swimming season.

We have spa treatments, dolphin watching, Wilpattu safari, yoga, cooking classes, fishing, bike rides,…even a home cinema. Cajun and illuk roofs, to the rugged coastline and luscious greenery. Balmond OBE and his son John was simple – to create beautiful, sustainable living spaces, blending traditional Sri Lankan design with a touch of the contemporary.

Seagrove Beach

Victoria Inn has 20 rooms with a posh contemporary-cottage feel. Live your best life and stroll through the walled rose gardens, dine in the restaurant for fresh shellfish with samphire from the Holkham coastline, or walk the few minutes to the golden sands of the beach. With ghost-white sand, black lava rock and gaggles of marine iguanas, Tortuga Bay is an almost surreal place. It’s not quite so hidden any more, but this beach still makes its mark as one of the world’s best. At the end of a winding road on the wind-battered west coast of the Isle of Harris, you’ll find something to make your eyes pop. Luskentyre Beach is a paint splash of brilliant white, surrounded by almost impossibly azure water.

Gurnard Beach is a quaint traditional, pebble and shingle beach, within walking distance from the town of Cowes. East Cowes Beach is a quiet shingle and sand beach with fantastic views across West Cowes and its marina, and also out across the Solent. To be awarded the prestigious Blue Flag, beaches must comply with several criteria covering environmental education and information, water quality, environmental management, safety and services. The tack is very obvious, after 5 minutes or so you will came to a shallow river crossing, most of the time it’s very easy to cross. Next you will find another metal gate, again with a kissing gate for walkers.
