The best Marvel movies
The most complete, balanced, joyful and exciting mix of everything the franchise does well came together in 2012 for the first super-team face-off. Marvel spent the next decade repeating the formula, to varying degrees of success, but they’ve never bettered the original – a movie that brought the whole band together to fight an alien invasion in the middle of New York. It’s pretty hard to watch Ant-Man now after seeing the opening scene of The Boys season three. Often overlooked because it’s only sort of part of the MCU, The Incredible Hulk is now more of a What If…? Movie – imagining what the franchise would look like if Edward Norton didn’t argue with Marvel and ended up being replaced by Mark Ruffalo.
We’re also rather partial to the weird Black Widow family the movie introduces us to. It would just be nice if the film’s final reveal wasn’t the exciting origin of Captain America’s Infinity War plane. It’s a question that’s divided fans of the biggest shared universe ever conceived for nearly a decade and a half now. Each Marvel Cinematic Universe film has its defenders , and all four phases have at least one dedicated follower. The first Avengers-level Marvel movie in the fourth phase was always going to be a tough one to get right. After Endgame wrapped up phase three so nicely, and quickly defined the ensemble superhero genre, how would Marvel respond?
- As much as I’m enjoying the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s phase four line-up, it does feel like Marvel is having a bit of mid-life crisis.
- The film shows his complete origin story, from world-famous surgeon to master of the mystic arts and, like Guardians of the Galaxy, it widens the palette for Marvel Studios productions.
- And there’s still more to come – which we will add to this chronological list as soon as it’s released.
- Here’s a guide to the chronological order you should watch all 24 Marvel films.

The comic character also holds the psychic ability to control the powers of others. “And certainly for Harry the deal is enormous. Certainly the money on the table for him to appear in a Starfox solo film would be astronomical – pun intended. And of course with each film, the wages rise. “With his two new movies out this year, the talk is that Harry will become one of Hollywood’s most in demand leading men. “With his two new movies out this year, the talk is that Harry will become one of Hollywood’s most in demand leading men.” “And the surprise is that their deals pave the way for Harry to do as many as five projects for Marvel, which could see him as Starfox for 15 years.
The Suicide Squad, review: a riotous reboot that has the original film for breakfast
This is the second Marvel character from a Disney+ show to have to star in a spinoff after Echo from Hawkeye. Jac Schaeffer is on board the series as writer/exec producer. Not much has been revealed about the upcoming animated television series, X-Men ’97 but the show is a continuation of the beloved 1992 X-Men animated show with Beau DeMayo writing and producing the show. “I couldn’t be more honored to join the MCU,” she told Comic Con. “I feel like I’m doing something meaningful and hopeful and I hope you love Cosmo because she’s gonna bring lots of laughs and love and a bit of strength.” James Gunn returns to direct the third movie in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, which recently wrapped production.
Norton makes a great (angrier/meaner/sadder) Hulk, but his movie feels slightly forgettable. New films Blade and Ironheart are due to come out towards the end of next year. 3, as director James Gunn and the cast opened up about how the film will explore further the story of Gamora, the present leader of the Ravagers. Just all the amazing new nerd stuff you could ever want, really.
The Sorceror Supreme returns in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Doctor Strange 2 is to be lauded for bringing the pulpiness of its comic book source material to the big screen. But while this makes for some pretty impressive visuals, as a cohesive whole, the film falls short of the mark. If there’s a perfect MCU movie, it has to be Avengers Assemble.
What time does Only Murders in the Building season 2 episode 8 come out?
Paul Rudd is perfect casting as Scott Lang / Ant-Man, as is Michael Douglas who chews up the scenery in every shot he is in. The miniature effects are superb factory-publishing and no other MCU movie can boast having a Thomas The Tank Engine cameo. Its sequel was a bit of a dud but we’d happily watch this one again and again.
Avengers: Secret Wars 7 November,
Marvel and One Direction fans went wild when they finally saw the scene, anticipating his return in future MCU movies. Set in 2016, directly between the end of Civil War’s airport fight and the final scene of the film. The film starts with Natasha Romanoff on the run and in hiding after betraying Tony Stark and helping Steve Rogers and Bucky escape. The events of Black Widow appear to take place over three weeks. The film also introduces Yelena Belova and the dives into the origins of the Black Widow programme.
Few filmmakers have embraced the sheer weirdness of Thor, as Watiti did, and he openly embraced the farcical nature of the character that previous filmmakers pushed away from. Credit also has to be given to Gunn for introducing ‘space’ to the MCU, which became a whole other playground for movies down the line. Taika Waititi’s second crack at Thor doesn’t quite live up to the magnificence of Ragnarok, but it’s still the second-best Thor movie by some distance. It was a palate cleanser between the unending epic misery of Infinity War and the over the top bombast of Endgame.
